Back (way back) when I was about 4 or 5 months pregnant we started crib shopping. After a bit of browsing and research we came away with huge sticker shock. There was one crib I fell in love with, but it was way out of our budget. After a little bit of thought Glenn declared that he could make a similar one. Isn't this every woman's dream? To have the Father of her unborn baby lovingly create a bed for his little one to dream in? Well it certainly was mine. And so the process began.
Had we known it would take as long as it did and require so much effort, we probably wouldn't have undertaken such a task. However, as they say: "hindsight is 20-20."
I'm glad we had this experience. As it has not only resulted in a treasured keepsake for Lucy but it has taught me some great lessons. Like, it's okay to ask for help. My dad helped out alot. With some of the assembly as well as the painting. Glenn's parents contributed as well. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child and we have learned this in more ways than one.
This crib isn't perfect. There are imperfections and flaws (that I'm sure only Glenn sees). And if we were to do it a 2nd time, it would surely be better. This is us as parents and also as people. We aren't perfect, we never will be. Some of our flaws are obvious and many are hidden. But, there is alot of love & tears that went into this crib and go into our roles as parents. And hopefully we will be willing to keep changing for the better.
And so, little Lucy Blu may your slumber be sweet in this crib designed by your mothers dreams & built with your fathers love.
